What version of the Bible is the best option for a foreign student English?

I am a Chinese student and want to read the Bible in those days. I have a King James version, but found plenty of old English and too difficult for me, one who never learned English old, to understand. so I am looking for a better version for me. should be much more understandable. and it was better to be translated also to reveal the true meaning of the Bible, while the modern use and understandable language. PS: I mostly learn American English rather than British. thanks.
